This course explores the somatic arts: fun and exciting forms of embodiment, movement, exercise, and play. Students learn about their ownmovement habits, preferences, and styles through encounters with a diverse array of movement modalities, global perspectives, and experiential anatomy. Weekly topics include Yoga, Qi Gong, Tae Kwon Do, Franklin Method, Spiraldynamik, Rolf Movement, Dunham Technique, Capoeira, Gyrokinesis, and Yorrcha. The semester primarily includes participatorymovement practice, supplemented with reading, critical analyses, class discussions, observational skill, written reflections, and a final presentation. Through regular engagement, students cultivatean embodied discourse around somatic process in a global context.
