Selected Topics in German Studies; Watching Disaster: Eco-Crises in German(ic) Television and Film

This course explores the modern phenomenon of the "ecological" disaster by critically examining a range of ecological disasters and the role that they have played in the popular imagination of Germany, Norway, and Sweden. By rigorously analyzing these television shows, students will try to understand how these disasters make themselves felt in serial narratives and visual motifs meant to be accessible to a mass audience. Taught in English.
