This course aims to immerse the student in the cultural intricacies and imaginaries of the Puerto Rican musical experience. How does a song capture its temporal and existential immediacy? Furthermore, can such representation evolve into a contemplation of contemporary times? What constitutes a musical representation of the contemporary in Puerto Rico? This course will explore a curated selection of literary texts, essays, songs, videos, and "especiales" to initiate a conversation on the concept of the contemporary Puerto Rican soundscape.
