Biomedical research worldwide aims to identify ways to prevent and treat diseases that cause illness and death in people and animals. In this course, we will explore a diverse array of biomedical research topics including gene editing, infectious diseases, precision medicine in cancer drug discovery, cognitive aging and Alzheimers disease, drugs of addiction, health disparities, how stress influences health, and psychiatric disorders. The goal of the course is to explore cutting edge advances in biomedicine through reading and discussing primary research articles reporting findings from current studies. Students will feel comfortable delving into, reading, and discussing the primary literature and have a clearer understanding of the biomedical hot topics that are affecting communities worldwide by the end of the course.
