GIS for Historic Preservation will provide students with the fundamental skills needed to use geographic information systems for a variety of applications within the heritage industries, including historic preservation, archaeology, and cultural resources management The coursewill begin with foundational skill building, including relational database basics, metadata creation, geographic coordinate systems and projections, spatial data types and their implications, feature creationand editing,data manipulation, and building spatial models for solving common challenges in preservation.
