Intensive Elementary Korean I

Prerequisite: Must have appropriate Foreign Language Placement Assessment (FLPA) score, and permission of ARHU-School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures department.
Restriction: Must be a non-Heritage student with no background in Korean. Registration limited to students accepted into the Summer Language Institute.
Credit only granted for: KORA101 or KORA103.
Intensive introduction to the Korean language at the elementary level through a highly interactive approach, including oral/aural, reading, and writing skills (Hangul alphabet). Substantial cultural component familiarizes students with various aspects of Korean culture. Designed for students with no formal education in the Korean language. Taught in Korean.

Intensive Elementary Korean II

Prerequisite: KORA101, KORA103 or equivalent, as determined by the Foreign Language Placement Assessment (FLPA), and permission of ARHU-School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures department.

Credit only granted for: KORA 102 or KORA 104.
Intensive training at the elementary level in spoken Korean including the use of various speech styles, through a highly interactive approach. Continues to build and enhance accuracy in basic literacy skills, vocabulary, and grammar, as well as situational appropriateness. Substantial cultural component familiarizes students with various aspects of Korean culture. Taught in Korean.

Prerequisite: KORA102, KORA104 or equivalent, as determined by the Foreign Language Placement Assessment (FLPA), and permission of ARHU-School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures department.

Development of Korean language proficiency and cultural knowledge at the intermediate level. Taught in Korean.

Prerequisite: Must have appropriate World Language Placement (WLP) score, and permission of ARHU-School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures department.
Restriction: Must not be a native/fluent speaker of Korean. Native/fluent speakers of Korean or students who have previously attended Korean school should take the WLP and see the Korean Program Advisor to identify the correct Korean course for which to register.
This course is designed to enable learners to achieve speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar skills in Korean at an advanced level (intermediate mid or high on the OPI scale). This course will also help the students understand aspects of the Korean culture. Thereupon, it will help students understand how Korean language and culture are interrelated with each other and how they can utilize the Korean language appropriately according to cultural expectations in real-life situations.
