Special Topics in Bioengineering; Model-Based Public Policy
Credits: 3
Grad Meth: Reg
Equivalent of differential equations, experience in coding is preferable.

The first part of the class will be dedicated to learning what public policy is, a few case studies will be reviewed. In particular, we will analyze cases where the use of models can be contrasted with public policy without models. The use of different models used in public policy will be discussed. The course will focus on learning agent based modeling (ABM), which has been used in many areas of science, including social and health sciences. Specific examples will be presented and students will create a model for a specific policy need.

Special Topics in Bioengineering; Spatial Biology: Bioinformatics, Omics, and Technology
Credits: 3
Grad Meth: Reg
Restrictions: Permission of the Fischell Department of Bioengineering

Introduction to modern spatial biology methods, beginning with clinical motivations and pathology, moving to the materials, imaging, and chemistries that enable spatial methods, and ending with spatial omics analysis and bioinformatics. This course will cover clinical and engineering background and theory, and practical spatial omics programming and analysis.
