Exploring Environmental and Public Health Research

Introduces students to environmental and public health research, foundational research methods and on- and off-campus research opportunities. Course experiences include visits to select lab spaces across campus, interactive guest lectures and professional panels, analysis of research datasets, and training on introductory research software.

Introduction to Public Health Aerobiology Research

Recommended: Successful completion of at least one biology and/or chemistry course with laboratory; MIEH325 or ENVH125 enrolled or completed.
Restriction: Must be a degree-seeking UMD undergraduate student. Permission of PHAB Lab and GEOH department required.
Additional information: Application required; see Student Opportunities at https://sph.umd.edu/phablab. Positions assigned to accepted students based on interests, background, and scheduling availability. Student must commit to working at least 5 hours/week in the lab throughout the semester.
This course provides students with the opportunity to assist the Public Health AeroBiology (PHAB) lab on various projects examining factors related to the transmission of SARS-CoV2, influenza, and other acute respiratory infections. Students can participate in the virology or bioaerosols laboratories or in the clinic of the PHAB Lab as Research Assistants.
