Special Topics in French Literature; France and the United States: Understanding French-American Relations, Past and Present

Prerequisite- fren387 Designed to provide an extensive study of French perceptions of the United States and of American views of France through selected texts and media. Documents discussed throughout the semester will include works by intellectual, artistic, and literary figures, diplomats and political scientists, travelers, historians and journalists from both sides of the Atlantic. Our discussions will focus on the complex history of France-USA relations, as well as on their most recent developments, taking into account cultural, social and economic aspects.
