This seminar examines major theoretical frameworks and perspectives of the sociology of education with an emphasis on k-12 education. The course also takes a pragmatic approach by applying theoretical knowledge to understand U.S. schooling and contemporary educational themes and debates where activists, researchers, and political actors aim to alter schools, students, or families.
