Controlled environment agriculture, including hydroponic food production, has increased dramatically worldwide as demand for fresh, local, safe, nutritious food has increased and an appreciation for the negative social and environmental impacts of producing food long distances from where it is consumed has grown. Through instructor and guest lectures, growing crops in greenhouses and rooms, and visiting local hydroponic facilities, students will learn the fundamentals of how to grow vegetable and fruit crops in hydroponic and aquaponic systems.
