Perspectives on Identity and Culture; Colonialism, Science Fiction, and Indigenous Futures
Credits: 3
Grad Meth: Reg, P-F, Aud
Students will explore what Indigenous futures might look like through the lens of science fiction and other forms of speculative genres. They will also engage with how the dominant culture tends to imagine the future and in what ways Indigenous peoples are part of or not part of that future. Students will examine objects in popular culture including movies, TV shows, music videos, and video games alongside academic texts to think about Indigenous futures and colonialism from a variety of perspectives.
