Prerequisite: JOUR320.

Students in this class will learn and put into practice classic investigative news techniques, including using data to find local officials and other people to interview; uncovering a network of confidential sources; approaching and interviewing confidential sources; gaining trust in order to gain hard truths; cultivating public officials as confidential and on-the-record sources; finding supporting documents and other public and non-public records. This is not a data class. The class emphasis is on finding, preparing for, and interviewing people with sensitive information. The subject of the investigation is still confidential.
