In this asynchronous course, we will examine the transnational history of the horror genre in cinema through the 20th and 21st centuries. We will explore the defining features of the genre and interrogate the status of horror film as one of the most enduring and popular forms of filmmaking. We will also look at horror films as social forms capable of intercepting and giving shape to the collective desires, hopes, and anxieties that mark specific historical periods.
