Selected Topics in Sociology; Doing Theory: Methods of Social Theorizing
Credits: 3
Grad Meth: Reg, P-F, Aud
This course will serve as an introduction to various styles of social theory (e.g., critical, cultural, literary, sociological) and methodological approaches to theorizing. We will discuss practices for reading, interpreting, and authoring social theory, and we will evaluate the stakes of doing theory in an unjust world. The class will be particularly useful for students preparing for courses where writing theory/philosophy will be required (e.g., SOCY203).
