Science, research, education, and evidence-based communication have never been more important, as we deal with global challenges related to climate change, pandemics, disinformation campaigns, and social unrest. The lack of trust in experts and in science combined with inequities in representation and access have exacerbated many of these problems and demonstrated the importance of engagement by scientists with the public, the media, and with decision-makers to demonstrate the value of research, science, and higher education. In this class we will focus on building the knowledge and skills of students to more effectively engage on scientific issues through communication, policy, and diplomacy through a range of mechanisms.
