Who belongs in America? Who decides? Few issues ignite political debate more than immigration. Birthright citizenship, deportations, and refugee crises dominate headlines but behind the noise is a deeper story of law, economics, and identity. This course traces the evolution of U.S. immigration and displacement policies, exploring how demographic shifts, labor markets, and political ideologies shape national belonging. Students will analyze demographic and policy trends to understand immigration's real-world impact; connect immigration to law, public policy, economics, and social change; and develop critical analytical skills applicable to law, advocacy, journalism, and policy work. No prior experience in data analysis is required, but students will gain hands-on experience interpreting immigration and demographic data, equipping them with toolsfor both industry and academia.
