Prepares graduate students to lead community-engaged design projects grounded in heritage and awareness month themes. It emphasizes advanced research methods, including literature reviews, contextual inquiries, and heuristic evaluations, agile prototyping, and mentorship of undergraduate design teams. Students collaborate with external partners to co-create solutions using a modified Google Ventures Design Sprint. Graduate students will have opportunities to mentor undergraduate teams through bi-weekly online check-ins and two in-person meetings where the undergraduate students will present their work and gather their input, while all students will gain hands-on experience working with external partners such as community leaders and cultural organizations. The course develops leadership, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and stakeholder communication skills in hybrid and distributed team settings to support meaningful impact in communities around us.
