This course addresses wide-ranging issues in the sociology of religion, one of the most significant and enduring social phenomena, reflecting humans' urge for understanding the meaning and purpose of life and longing to attain eternal happiness and salvation. This course will discuss four general topics: religion and diversity of religious experience; theories of religion and religious transformation; religiosity and demand versus supply-side theories of spirituality; and religious fundamentalism and violent extremism.
