Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C- in PHYS161, MATH141, CHEM135, and (ENES102 or ENAE222).
Restriction: Must be in a major in ENGR-A. James Clark School of Engineering.
Credit only granted for: BIOE232, CHBE301, or ENES232.
Introduction to thermodynamics. Thermodynamic properties of matter. First and second laws of thermodynamics, cycles, reactions, and mixtures.
Non-engineering students and non-UMD students must submit a Keystone Program Permission to Enroll form for approval to register for this course.

Discussion
Examinations will be given from 10:00am-12:30pm ET on Wednesday 1/14 an Friday, 1/23. Students are required to take the examinations in-person at the University of Maryland or at an approved off-site test proctoring center.

For Winter 2026 the following prerequisites are required: PHSY260 and PHYS261.
