Seminar in American Studies; Gentrification and the Politics of Displacement

This course explores the multiple workings of gentrification and the uses of space. It examines the history of property and race in the U.S.,including spatial racism and segregation policies, Black feminist geographies, and the politics of housing as a result of gentrification policies.Throughout the course we will redefine the meanings and future of gentrification,and theorize what gentrification holds for the future,including the politics of climate gentrification and migration.
