An overview of basic concepts about the etiology, diagnosis and treatment of psychoactive substance use disorders (i.e., addictions), especially: causes and acceleration of national opioid epidemic; assessment, epidemiology, and neurobiology of addiction to major psychoactive drugs; treatments for addictions to psychoactive drugs; and national drug control and treatment policy.
