This course offers a comprehensive introduction to computational modeling techniques in biomedical engineering, with a focus on mesh generation, numerical methods, and simulation of physiological systems. You will explore both structured and unstructured grid generation, including adaptive mesh refinement and image-based meshing from MRI/CT data for biomedical applications. Foundational topics in numerical analysis will be covered, such as numerical differentiation and integration, interpolation, and the solution of ordinary and partial differential equations. You will explore high-performance computing (HPC) techniques, including CPU acceleration using Zaratan, UMD's HPC cluster to run complex, large-scale simulations. You will develop and implement numerical methods using Python. By the end of the course, you will be equipped to build and analyze computational models of complex biomedical systems for both research and clinical applications.
