Explores the sprawling infrastructure of white supremacy in the U.S. state and the ways Black activists confronted it through the lens of HBO's Lovecraft Country (2020) and several related feature films. Our readings will examine systems of racial oppression from their origins in slavery through their persistence in its legacies as well as the liberatory alternatives envisioned and enacted by Black thinkers.
