This introductory graduate course in public health communication will examine basic concepts, theoretical foundations and behavioral and social scientific research and practice in the field of public health communication to gain an understanding of how health communication interventions, messaging, programs, etc. can contribute to improving health outcomes, eliminating health disparities, and achieving health equity. We will examine these concepts through the application and review of cultured-centered health communication approach and other health communication approaches and theories that can be applied to address specific health communication challenges (i.e. ineffective patient-provider communication, algorithm bias, etc.).
