Prerequisite: INST 366
Focuses on the use of artificial intelligence by government actors in addressing societal challenges, including in such areas as information policy, healthcare, disease detection, environmental sustainability, national security, and social justice. Covers the AI legal and regulatory landscape at both the federal and state levels of government, as well as a range of policy concerns, including AI bias and data privacy. A portion of the course will look at dystopian outcomes from governmental use of AI technologies. Students will be expected to participate in designing one or more AI applications for a specific component of government to use in carrying out its mission.
