This seminar will explore the basic economics of news and the broader media industry. The course will examine how news, social media and entertainment are structured and how emergent media business models differ from legacy models. We will also discuss how business and political interests increasingly influence the news and entertainment that viewers see and hear. During the course, students will read case studies and hear from speakers who represent different segments of the media. Students will then use these insights to analyze specific media corporations.
