Topics in Syntax; Inference at the Semantics-Pragmatics Interface

Examination of how linguistic forms (e.g., modal expressions, conditionals, tense-aspect-mood) and context jointly license and constrain inferences about speaker beliefs, evidence, intentions, and commitments. Formal and experimental approaches from linguistics, philosophy, and psychology of reasoning.

Students will benefit from having taken one of the following: LING350/PHIL360 or LING410 or any college-level formal logic course.
