This Big Questions course addresses the question: What is a "linguistic landscape"? How do we decode and interpret language on signs--buildings, roadways, flyers, storefronts, even t-shirts and what does it mean for our public spaces? How and why are languages displayed, hierarchized and used in social and school settings?
