This course examines how national identity is constructed at the individual level, how this process can sow division, and how it can drive violent conflict. Focusing on spatial interaction with place, it explores geospatial factors, such as political memory, territorial boundaries, and environmental symbolism, that shape individual and collective political action related to regional and national identity.

This course examines the history of CBRN pursuit and use, the current global landscape, and potential future threats. Students will learn how CBRN risks have evolved, international efforts to counter risks, and why threats are unavoidable byproducts of progress.

Analyzing Terrorism: Simulations, Wargaming, and Strategies of Security

Introduces students to novel, applied methods to study terrorism and security, including simulations, wargaming exercises, and red teaming. This course assumes no prior experience with these methods. Throughout the course, students will complete activities to understand the behavior of militant groups and develop security strategies to counter violent non-state actors.
