This course takes a creative lens on Latino/a/x politics by using music and popular culture as entry points into political life. From varied regional music genres to reggaetn, salsa to hip-hop, we will explore how music reflects Latino political identities, struggles, and movements. Through analysis of lyrics, genre, and impact, students will engage with themes of immigration, race, gender, belonging, and resistance as relevant to Latino/a/x politics. The course emphasizes critical listening and discussion, highlighting how politics is interpreted, narrated, and represented in everyday culture.
