How did people in the past understand "magic," and how do we as historians interpret "magical" sources? We will explore this topic through different lenses, such as science and scholarship, religious variation and practice, sexuality, minorities, etc. Our work will focus on the connected societies of the medieval Islamic world, from North Africa and the Middle East to Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
