While Britain no longer "ruled the waves" after World War II, it began to "waive the rules" and its pop culture crossed the Atlantic as part of the "British Invasion", from the Beatles in the 1960s to the Spice Girls in the 1990s. This course will survey some of the innovations in British music, film, TV, and fashion, and how the political and social context of the Cold War, Thatcherism, the Irish Troubles, and Brexit shaped its culture and international influence in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
