Special Topics in Chinese Studies; Why Taiwan Matters

Introduces students to Taiwan s history, culture, political development, and global significance. Through a combination of historical and contemporary analysis, students will explore Taiwan's evolution into a democratic society, its complex relationship with China, its strategic ties with the United States, and its central role in the global semiconductor industry. Also considers questions of identity and culture to better understand Taiwan s place in the world today.
