The preservation movement has long focused on sites, people, and events associated with the founding of the United States, from George Washington s Mount Vernon, to Independence Hall, to Boston s Freedom Trail. This course explores the preservation history of the Revolutionary-era and investigates how the sites and their interpretations have changed over time as we tell a national story that includes more Americans, including enslaved people, immigrants, and indigenous people. This course meets as a weekly seminar and will include travel to historic sites outside of class time.
