A historical "cradle of conflict" between a variety of ethnicities, empires, and nationalities, Manchuria is an important key to understanding the construction of the modern nation-state in East Asia from the 17th to 21st centuries. Charts how various actors conceptualized "Manchuria" to further their own imperial and national aspirations.
