Learning, Agency, and Inquiry in the Age of AI examines how AI changes what it means to learn, think, and create knowledge. Students will compare human learning and machine learning to develop accurate mental models of modern AI systems--and to recognize where common "AI-as-a-person" metaphors mislead. The course focuses on human-AI interaction as a learning relationship: how beliefs about AI shape trust and reliance, how inquiry and research practices shift when AI becomes a cognitive partner, and what reasoning and metacognitive skills become more valuable (and more fragile) in AI-mediated learning. Students leave with an evidence-based "AI learning playbook," a transparent workflow for inquiry-with-AI (verification, sourcing, and accountability), and a framework for exercising agency and ethical judgment in academic, civic, and professional contexts.
