This is designed to provide a practical extension for graduate students who have completed TLPL791 {and preferably TLPL 792} or its equivalent. Multimodal methods is designed to provide introduction and expanded exposure to nontraditional methods that incorporate multimodality. This course will address various aspects of planning and conducting qualitative multimodal research. The objective of this process is to provide students with opportunities to think about innovative methods that they can employ in the context of their own work and explore the vast opportunities when embedding multimodality in their research design. This course offers a deep dive into defining, designing and conducting multimodal research.. In particular, we will address various approaches to planning and conducting multimodal qualitative research, the theoretical frameworks and analysis approaches that commonly complement multimodal methods, and innovative approaches in multimodal methods.
